We had the campground just about all to ourselves during our mid-November visit. We chose site C-24, which was not considered a premium water-front site, but yet offered a great view of the lake...and of sunset. Date of visit: Nov 2008 |

Here are two of the water-front sites, C-29 in the distance, and the table area for C-28 to the right. |
Sites C-30 and C-31 are also premium waterfront sites. |
Site C-14 is representative of the wooded sites back away from the water. |
C-18 is one of the best sites we saw, and yes, it's a premium water-front site. |

Most of the B Campground consists of tent sites without hookups. Parking for vehicles is in pull-offs beside the road, with the actual campsite down or up an embankment. This is B-51. |
Sites B-44 and B-45 are water-front tent sites. |
Another loop in the B Campground has 14 sites with E/W hoopkups. |
Site B-7 s at the end of the road. None of these sites, B-1 through B-14, offer the open views of the water that can be found in the C Campground. |
There are 4 bathhouses in the campground. They are modern, clean and offer free hot showers. |
There are 18 miles of hiking trails in the park. This is the start of the .8 mile Big Oak Trail. |
Back in the 1800's, the park land was part of the 3100-acre Occoneechee Plantation, built by William Townes circa 1839. This is the foundation of the 20-room main house, which burned on Christmas Eve, 1898. |
Boaters will find a multi-ramp boat launch facility inside the park entrance. Late on a Sunday afternoon, boaters were waiting their turn to load their boats on their trailers. |
