Knowing the weekend was coming up, we decided we needed to get here on Thursday.  We did, at about noon, and it's a good thing we did - we got the next-to-last available site, and someone came along shortly after us to claim the last one.  We were very happy with site 21; as you can see, it sits right at the water's edge facing SSW.

Date of visit: Apr 2011

This is your initial view as you enter the campground, showing sites 4-8.

There is a single loop road through the campground, with sites on both sides. Here are sites 28-29.

Site 8 is a pleasant site near the water, with a stand of cypress trees behind it.

Here is a Susan site - site 26 sits at the end of a little point of land.

Sites 41 and 40 are on the eatsern side of the loop.
Sites 47 and 46.

Typical of the "inland" sites is site 51.

Sites 1-3 are on the north-facing side of the loop.
Sites 12-9.

Site 13 is one of the two pull-through sites. We almost took it before spotting 21 up ahead a bit.

Sites 26-29 are all nice sites with great water views.
The bathhouse offeres free hot showers (with the push-button faucet) and is heated.  The hosts do a good job keeping it clean.
Near the center of the camp loop is a good-sized pavilion.
Right at the campground entrance is a boat ramp.  Beyond it is the swimming area.
One always see fishermen out trying their luck.  Beyond them is the Browns Ferry nuclear power plant, at one time the largest reactor built.
The unguarded swimming area is fairly large.
Beside the beach is a playground for the young ones.
Sunset at site 21.

Overall Impression:

Not a bad spot.  Not quite up to the standards of a COE park, but with just a little work, it could be.  35 sites are available for seasonal rent, leaving 21 for short stays of up to three weeks. Fortunately the water-front sites have been reserved for the short-term folks.  The host was very friendly and makes his presence known. Campers are allowed to park boat trailers and cars on the grass, so there is a lot of dirt and mud when it rains.  Would we return? You bet!

Mallard Creek TVA, AL

Mallard Creek TVA Campground is located on Wheeler Reservoir west of Huntsville, AL.  Situated on a peninsula jutting into the lake, the campground has 56 sites.   Fishing is a major pasttime in this area; we were about the only campers here without a boat.
