Most of the sites back up to the lake, which is really a large bald cypress swamp, deeper thanks to the dam. There were only 4 other RV's here when we arrived on 29 Nov, so we had no problem finding a site. We chose site 21.

Date of visit: Nov 2007

This was the view from the back of our site early in the morning. The cabins are just into the trees across the lake.

Sites 23, 22, and 21.

Sites 1 (left) and 2 are at the edge of a sunny grassy area.

From right, here are sites 3-4, 5, and 6. 3 and 4 comprise a double site, great for two families to share.

Site 15 is one of the most open in the back to the lake.

An overall view of the campground setting. That's the host site on the left, with site 25 in the background.
The clean bathhouse is heated and offers free hot showers and laundry facilities (75 cents a load).

We wished we had planned to be here two nights - it would be great fun to take one of the rental canoes out along the water trail.

The Watson Mill sits atop the dam, and serves as a covered bridge as well as a sawmill and grist mill. The grist mill has been restored and is operational today.
This shows some of the mill mechanism.

In the foreground is the original water turbine, while a Diesel generator, used to power the mill in its later working years, is in the background.

Down in southeast you'll find George. Smith SP about 15 miles of Swainsboro off US 80. The park is situated around a 412-acre lake, created by a most interesting structure: a combination dam, covered bridge, grist mill and saw mill, built in 1880. The CG offers 25 RV sites with W/E(30A) hookups. There are also 4 cottages available for rent, several picnic shelters and a playground.
