The ten new sites are just off the main road past the gas station - very easy to find. Checking in on a weekend, however, is just about impossible. The main MWR office is closed weekends, and nobody else we could find knew anything about the sites. We ended up picking a site and paying on Monday morning as we left.

Date of visit: Nov 2006

A view looking down the road through the new sites, five on each side. Nice and open terrain makes for easy satellite set-up.

The obligatory shot of our rig on site #12 in Nov 2006.
Three years later, in 2009, also in November, we were on site #11.  We were lucky - this was the last site available, thanks to a last-minute cancellation..
These are the four original sites, located a short ways behind the gas station. A small shed offers a washer and dryer. No bathhouse that we could see.
In a grove behind the 4 sites is a playground and large old foundation of a warehouse with two large picnic pavilions.
Just to remind us of what it's all about: some of the C-130's assigned to the field.
There's a nice exhibit of some old Coast Guard aircraft out by the front gate.
Don't have an RV? You can rent a cottage right at the water's edge.

Just a short walk from the new sites is a very nice beach.

If you bring your boat along, you'll find a dual-ramp boat launch.

Check-in during weekday business hours is at the MWR office, located in the far end of the building housing the base club, Hangar 7. On weekends, the gym is supposed to handle site rentals, but when we asked them on a Sunday, they knew nothing.

There is a small Exchange not far from the FAMCAMP - we didn't get to check it out, for it was closed on the Sunday we arrived. At the gas station is a fairly large convenience store.

The Coast Guard has invested a bit in the FAMCAMP facilities at Elizabeth City. We were here back in 1997, when there were only 4 gravel sites available. Since then, 10 paved sites with full E/W/S hookups have been added closer to the river.
