Mission Dolores CG

This is a very nice campground operated by the city of San Augustine in east Texas. It's located on Route 47 just a short walk from downtown, with its courthouse square.

We arrived on a Monday and had choice of all but 3 of the 32 sites. We ended up on #4, after first choosing #14, only to find the electricity did not work.

Date of visit: Mar 2007

Lots of grass and enough trees for some shade make for very pleasant surroundings. Here you see #32 on the left, with #31 just beyond. The 5'ver in the distance is on #28. The bathhouse is on the left.

Here is #20 on the left.
This is #5 in the foreground. You can see that setting up your satellite dish is pretty easy here.
There's a nice bathhouse in the center of the campground, with hot showers. With the temps in the upper 20's, some heat would have been welcome for that morning shower.
The Fee Station, where you pay the Iron Ranger.
Across the street from the campground is a Visitors Center and a small museum telling the story of the mission that once here along the Camino Real, or the King's Highway, back in the 1700's.
A stone marker at the site of the mission.
On our second evening here, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset, helped by some smoke from fires in the distance. We could smell the smoke all day.
