We called after breakfast to see if sites were available and were told there were; we arrived about 1130 and had a number of sites from which to choose; here we are on site 20. Date of visit: Jan 2012 |

Sites 1-5. This part of the park, formerly the Fort Sam Houston Rec Area, is now known as Hancock Cove. |

Sites 21-24. 21 and 22 share a long site. |

Sites 25-30 are closest to the lake, but trees and bushes prevent a clear view of the water. |

Sites 13 and 14. |

In the center of the campground is this older bathhouse, which offers free hot showers. However, the park apparently has a long-term problem with water and there was no water available at the time of our visit. |

Behind the office is this newer laundry and shower facility. |

There are 31 of these mobile homes that can be rented. |

There are also 10 very small cabins for rent. |
 |
Check-in is at the office/campstore. The staff are very pleasant and professional folks. |

A short walk from the campground is the beach. With the lake level so low, there is certainly plenty of beach area. |

The children's play area even has a shade canopy for hot summer days. |

There's quite a bath-tub ring around Canyon Lake. |

Across the highway is the Sunnyside area, formerly the Randolph AFB Rec Area. There is a smaller campground there with 9 cement-pad, full hook-up sites. These are sites 1-4 on the right, 9 on the left. |
