We selected site E191 for our overnight stay. It was fairly level and offered a pleasant mix of sun and shade.

Date of visit: Apr 2006

Loops E, F, G and H must be the original part of the CG. Sites are more shaded in this area. At many of these sites, it would be difficult to set up a satellite dish. Verizon National Access service is available.

This would be my vote for the best site in the campground - E180. Most sites are back-in, but there are pull-throughs primarily in loops F, G and H.

This shows the openness of the newer part of the CG, loops A, B, C and D.

No hookups are available at Big Meadows, but there is a dump station.

One of the two older bathhouses in the original part of the CG.

There are five more modern bathrooms in the newer section.
Showers and laundry facilities are available in a separate building near the check-in station.
Situated on the west side of the summit, Big Meadows Lodge offers sleeping accomodations and dining. Besides rooms in the main lodge, guests may also stay in cottages or motel-type units.
Here is the rustic appearing, yet comfortable living room of the lodge.
There are not many campgrounds where you have only a short walk to a first-rate restaurant. The food is delicious and the view out the windows is......well, see below.

This is only part of the view from the dining room, looking out over the Shenandoah Valle.
