We arrived on a Thursday afternoon, after visiting several of the spectacular waterfalls just east of Ainsworth and found a number of empty sites to choose from. We selected A8.

Date of visit: May 2008

All of the A sites are pull-throughs; here are sites A7 and A6.

Here are sites A1 and A2 as one first enters the campground.

Site B32 and B30 (r) and B29 (l).

Sites B7 (r) and B8 and B9 (l).

Sites A12 and A13.
One of two modern, clean bathhouses - each has free hot showers.

Just behind our site were some of the precipices that form the south wall of the gorge. The Columbia River Gorge is really a beautiful spot, but it has been impacted for the worse by the construction of I-84. Instead of a quiet spot to enjoy, one has to listen to the roar of traffic day and night.

Ainsworth SP, OR

Ainsworth SP is located in the Columbia River Gorge 17 miles east of Troutdale. It's a small, older park, but quite pleasant. It's a bit noisy, for I-84 is not too far away and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks are also nearby. But a ranger told me it's quieter than other state parks in the gorge.
